Working on new material

Posted by Tom More on January 9, 2012 at 5:18pm 0 Comments

Since I haven't been really good about keeping up with a written blog I decided to try a video post instead. I'm working with local guitarist Dan Pomeroy on a collaborative follow-up to my album "Self-Evident Truths." Here we're working out the guide track for "In My Image."

Tinnitus: When the music stops

In the summer of 2007 the music stopped for Nick Coleman. For 30-odd years he had steeped himself in music – singing in a choir, playing trombone, soaking up medieval and modern-classical influences from his father, drenching himself in 1960s rock'n'roll and 1970s "prog rock" – until it became his greatest love and his career. For 25 years he wrote about music for the NME, Time Out and serious ...

Saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa performs unique fusion

Saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa is best known for his prowess at applying the principles of Indian classical music to contemporary jazz. But don’t pigeonhole him as the academic type. Reared in Colorado during the ’70s, Mahanthappa, now based in New York, is the child of another tradition entirely. His skill with ragas is acquired. His love of funk and progressive rock is seemingly innate. Read ...

ease your mind (again, but just wait)

Exciting news for Proggers everywhere! The tune is NOT from the album described below, but it's my current Gazpacho favorite. I'll be back with the new release when it comes out in February. From ytsejam.com: "Having released an album every 1-2 years, Gazpacho are one of the most active bands in progressive rock, but still they have remained one of the genre's best kept secrets - that is until ...

This week's new film events

David Lynch, London & Edinburgh Has Lynch really retired? Maybe not, but you get the feeling he has done all he can and he's created a body of work that only gets stronger with age. Even "failures" like Dune are worth revisiting, while triumphs such as Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man or Mulholland Drive can be watched over and over – with the help of this retrospective. Lynch's ...

Friday, Jan. 27 Into the Woods' 2nd Anniversary: Nightmoves, Grandparents, 1939 Ensemble [MUSIC] It didn’t take long for Into the Woods to expand beyond its arboreal namesake into the grassroots media micro-empire it is today. 3 bands create warm groove on frigid night

Multi-act bills at Nietzsche’s have become akin to minifestivals over the years. With the benefit of two stages — the main boards in the back of the club and a smaller satellite stage up front by the bar — bands rotate their sets, and the music never stops.

Cleveland-bound Akron/Family not a family nor from Akron. Discuss.

Editor’s note: Amber Patrick writes the music blog [a terror musical], which is part of The News-Herald’s Community Media Lab. Patrick, who’s also the editor for Vinyl District-Cleveland, is giving away two tickets to the Akron/Family show this week in Cleveland. Tweet at her — @aterrormusical — for a chance to win. The winner will be selected at random and notified the day before the show.

Both Pete Robbins' band and music represents reaching across from one space to another.
