I don't release albums per se, I just consider them complete when the master disc is finally mixed. Everything is done at home, so the only pressure to get material out stems from my own internal deadlines. I've completed an album every 2 years for over a decade, though, so I'm pushing to get this one finished no later than December - hopefully, it will be ready before then. There are some very cool (imho) proggy elements on this offering and songs will most certainly be added to my page when all is complete.

My app is very old - Cakewalk Pro Audio 6.0 - on a laptop running Windows '95, but it does what I need it to do. I'm very familiar with the software at this point, so productivity is near maximum. I also interface with a physical Portastudio, which is where I layer guitar and vox. I will probably force myself to upgrade eventually, but there always appears to be pains with that process - I toyed with Sonar a while ago on a friend's machine and just couldn't get the midi to synch with the audio. After much trial and error and multiple frustrations, I gave up and went back to my old reliables. :-)

yep progressively adding (an removing) layers.. hehe.. The idea of Music Jam is much more like fresh salads than big Jam Sessions with long improvised solos and such.

.. say max of 8 tracks of 5 minutes on 64kbps/mono mp3 files.. .. or basic key points / "highlights" (or as required) in higher bitrate to remix and upload back.. etc..

.. discuss / constructive critics .. suggestions on WIP stuff (work in progress.. :-p .. ) or just something you´d like to show up to hear some feedback..

re: searching for time - Couldn't agree more! My new album's coming along nicely, though - hope to have it finished before the end of this year.

My original thought for this was similar to what you mentioned about simple (or not so simple :-) ) structures. Possibly laying down a single or dual track and letting others build on top of that or even extend to the end of an existing track, allowing it to grow and develop 'progressively' - bad pun, but couldn't stop myself.

Info about the contribution such as key of composition or chord progression could also help others who want to jump in quickly.

Really looking forward to playing around in here as I have deep admiration and respect for the musicianship demonstrated on members' profiles.

Thanks Epic!! seems like we´re all searching for a bit of time to do what we like right?
I´ve been recording some ideas, some very basic short stuff and some "hour long" ones, jamming and mixing on Ableton Live. I guess a possible interaction here would work better with simple structures and harmonies than full multitrack jams.. I think of posting the basic ones mostly, by editing sessions for ex., picking parts and passages that could inspire others to create something with, post it back etc..

Else, a mititrack U.I. would fit great here eh?.. must figure out how to use Ning APIs to create a basic one.. I guess that will require lots of time ..
best !!

This was actually something I wanted to get started in Musician's Corner, but time never allowed. Thanks for starting this up, I hope to add a starter jam in the near future.

Regards, ES
